Current Education Center is a member of Liberated Learners, a national network of centers that support children and youth to self-direct their education, with member programs across the United States and Canada.
At CEC, we help students transition from traditional school to a setting where they take control of their own education, setting goals and learning in the ways that work best for them.
We offer mentoring and guidance and a safe and comfortable place to engage with peers, adults, nature, local businesses, and anything students are interested in. In addition, we offer a range of opportunities for learning and growth, and help students find internships, jobs and volunteer opportunities, and we help them with transitional steps as they move into their adult lives.
Members here don’t show up because they’re required to (they’re not). Members show up because they want to. They are invested in their own education because it is purpose-driven, with each member’s individual needs creating a common bond of curiosity.
When School Doesn’t Work
Families of teens have long struggled with schooling when their students did not find traditional public or private school settings meaningful or productive.
These are students who…
Are bright, but bored by standard academics
Learn differently
Struggle with the social atmosphere at school
Have social or academic anxiety
Have a medical condition that makes attending school hard, and online school isolating
Hate homework
Don’t want to sit at a desk and be told what to do all day
Traditional school works for many young people, but not for all. CEC offers a way out for students and families who feel stuck in their current school setting.
CEC is an intimate, welcoming setting where members can learn together, pursue a personal curriculum plan that fits their goals and learning style, and belong to a community of peers who learn together.
