Today marks 6 months until Current Education Center is scheduled to open. I have spent the last 6 months working systematically with Liberated Learners to consider all the aspects that will lead to a healthy and thriving Self Directed Education center. I have visited a few Liberated Learner centers and attended the Liberated Learners Conference last month. I have also talked with many old friends and made new connections. I’ve also learned about commercial real estate including terms like triple net. I’m looking to finalize a lease this month with a start date of December 1st. That would give some time to set up and offer families and teens to see the space. The space top on my list at this point is in North Wales, PA. Up to this point, most of the energy has come from me (buoyed by the community), my wife, a couple of close friends and one new friend. I’ve known from the beginning that I would need to partner with others to make this a reality. As the opening date gets closer, I’m getting more anxious about finding partners. I do have a meeting on July 22 to talk with someone interested.
I understand that being part of a start up is risky. I’m comforted by the thriving centers in the region and the support of the Liberated Learners network (which I formally applied for).
